Week-1-introbild-mail-2

Detox is a natural, ongoing process that works to neutralize and eliminate toxins from the body. When we eat a lot of sugary and processed foods, drink unpure water or are exposed to toxins in our environment, this process is overloaded with work and the body can’t eliminate enough to function properly. We end up with a toxic overload which can cause all sorts of problems. Helping the body to detoxify is essentially to maintaining a healthy life and a happy mind.

Boosting the body’s immune system will strengthen your ability to fight off infection and diseases. Adding antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables to your daily diet is essential for your immune system.

There are many natural foods that can help counteract the effects of a toxic lifestyle and boost your immune system. In this first part of the January Smoothie Challenge we have chosen to include a number of them in our smoothies.

Leafy greens

Green leafy vegetables, such as spinach, kale, chard, romaine etc, are nutritional powerhouses and something we should be eating a lot more of. One great way is to add them to your smoothies! Leafy greens are very high in many important vitamins and minerals needed by the body for optimal function. They are also alkalizing and great for detoxifying due to the high fiber content.

Citrus

Citrus fruits are among the most detoxifying natural foods due to being acid fruits. They are also powerful antioxidants, full of vitamin C and disease-fighting plant chemicals. Citrus fruits are, despite their sour taste, very alkalizing which means they work to balance out acidity in the body caused by stress, diet and pollution.

Carrot

Raw carrots are very good for removing toxins from the colon due to their high fiber content. They are also rich in antioxidants, vitamin A and important minerals.

Ginger

Ginger is packed with so many powerful compounds it should be considered a staple in any healthy diet. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer and antioxidant activities. Ginger is also one of the best detoxifying herbs since it stimulates digestion, circulation and sweating.

Cranberries

Cranberries are high in vitamin C and fiber but very low in calories, only 45 calories per cup. In disease-fighting antioxidants, cranberries outrank nearly every fruit and vegetable. The antioxidants flush out toxins in the body and boost the immune system. Cranberries are also great for fighting off bacteria that cause urinary tract infection.

Pineapple

Pineapple is another amazing natural food with many health benefits. It’s very rich in the antioxidant vitamin C which helps detoxify and strengthen your body’s immune system. It’s highly anti-inflammatory and aids digestion due to the enzyme bromelain.

Blueberries

Blueberries are one of the most antioxidant-rich natural foods to be found. They are also rich in disease-fighting plant-chemicals (phyto-chemicals) that protects the body from cancers, aging, degenerative diseases, and infections. Blueberries are also good for maintaining bladder health.
